Elder Rights and Elder Abuse Prevention The focus of the Area Agency on Aging's Elder Rights Council is to educate and work with human service agencies, law enforcement personnel, and various other professional entities, to increase the level of community awareness of fraud and abuse. We have two meetings each quarter. Our main group meets quarterly in Rome. Our Branch 1 group meets quarterly in Ellijay. Upcoming meetings are noted on our Meetings page. We hope you'll plan to join us. Minutes for our past meetings will be posted here on this page for the convenience of those who are not able to attend the meetings in person. We also frequently send e-mail notices regarding elder abuse cases in the news and alerts regarding fraud and scams that target the elderly population. If you'd like to receive e-mail updates regarding Elder Rights and Elder Abuse Prevention activities, please contact Karen Nelson by e-mail or by phone at 706-295-6485 or 1-800-759-2963.
